Minister to open Surat Basin Energy & Mining Expo

The Minister for State Development, Natural Resources and Mines, the Hon Dr Anthony Lynham MP today advised he would be available to formally open this week’s Surat Basin Energy and Mining Expo at the Toowoomba Showgrounds.

The Expo is organised by Toowoomba company Australian Events and comprises two days of exhibitions, forums and networking.

Australian Events’ Director Corporate Development Greg Johnson said “We were honoured to learn the Minister had been able to find time in his busy diary to be with us and to officially open, what is, one of the nation’s most important industry events.

“I contacted Dr Lynham’s office shortly after the new Cabinet was announced in February and extended the invitation. I have been in regular discussions with his staff but held little hope for a successful outcome given the Minister’s impossible diary.

The Minister will open the Expo at 9.00am on Wednesday, 17 June in the company of a number of leading business people and VIP’s.

Australian Events’ Managing Director Bob Carroll said “The company was thrilled to receive the news from the Minister’s office. I always had a feeling in the back of my mind that Dr Lynham would accede to our request given that pretty much all we showcase at the Expo falls within his portfolio.

“The fact is we have a brand new state government which, to be fair, wasn’t expected to win the 31 January election.

“It is my view that Australian Events, and all leading Queensland businesses, have a duty to brief all Ministers with portfolios which impact on business. For us to be able to do that on Wednesday as well as take the Minister on a tour of the site to meet the exhibitors, delegates and business leaders is an absolute bonus.”
