A giant four wheel drive obstacle course set up at the Gold Coast Turf Club has grabbed the attention of visitors to the 2016 Gold Coast Midyear Caravan and Camping Expo plus Home and Outdoor Living Ideas.
For the first time ever at this event, tons of sand, gravel, rocks and logs have been brought into the Turf Club and arranged into a giant four wheel drive obstacle course. The aim of the course is to help drivers understand how to tackle and negotiate different obstacles and terrain when out in the bush. Safety is also paramount, with demonstrations on how to recover your vehicle when bogged.
Dave Darmody, Director of Australian Offroad Academy will be heading up the demonstrations on the obstacle course. Dave has years of off road experience and is on a mission to provide the four wheel drive community with all the skills necessary to safely and confidently explore the great outdoors.
Luke Cheyne from Luke’s Reptile Kingdom also has a strong safety message to impart. Luke will have some of the world’s most venomous snakes on hand and will demonstrate what to do if bitten by one of them. Luke is an expert snake handler, but you might find yourself holding your breath as he allows a deadly Brown snake to slither around his feet while he demonstrates what to do if confronted in the bush.
Along with venomous snakes and four wheel drive demonstrations will be popular TV personality Paul Burt. Paul is a very savvy weather presenter, a leading journalist and a fishing specialist, but unknown to many, he is also a pretty damn fine cook! Paul has brought his own boat along to the Gold Coast Turf Club and will be showing us all the best way to catch ’em and cook ’em throughout the weekend.
The Gold Coast Midyear Caravan and Camping Expo plus Home and Outdoor Living Ideas will be held at the Gold Coast Turf Club, Racecourse Drive Bundall, from July 29-31. The event is open Friday and Saturday 9am – 5pm and Sunday 9am – 4pm.
