As a result of challenges in the mining and energy sectors over the past two years, The Surat Basin Expo saw a reduction in exhibitors but the content was brilliant with a number of new release products that had broad appeal and sound acceptance across a range of industries. With over 100 exhibitors and more than 3,000 delegates attending from across Queensland and further afield the event was very successful.
The annual Surat Basin Industry Forum was well attended with three excellent speakers. An update from Freight Terminals CEO Michele Reynolds on the Interlink Inland Railport and Industrial Precinct confirmed that this major privately funded development will see shovels in the ground by September. This exciting development will become a major driver for business and industry to compliment the amazing new Brisbane West International Airport at Wellcamp. Talking about the airport, Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise senior staffer, Stacey Burrell released details on an Australian First Business delegation of over 250 people that will fly out to China in October from Wellcamp on a chartered Qantas wide bodied aircraft. The “Access China 16 “ concept was well received and attracted strong discussion from the audience.
The key note speaker for the Forum was Ben Hughes from Economx and Hughes Et Al. Ben presented a paper on local employment strategies for the Surat Basin which is timely and once again displayed the innovation and clever thinking that was present over the two days of the Expo.
The Surat Basin Expo will take place in June 2017 with a focus on energy and major transportation projects and export opportunities.
